DYSENTERY - CHOLERA - TYPHOID
Of the TOP 5 Diseases that Kill - - 3 are Water Borne!
According to the latest census there are 40.5 million Kenyans many of which are prone to water borne disease (“WBD”) infections. The World Health Organization and the CIA World Factbook site that the top killer diseases for most of the world are Dysintary, HIV/Aids, Typhoid, Malaria, Cholera, and Thypoid.
NO ONE should die from drinking dirty water!
In order to combat these diseases, SWOK has initiated a program of providing Sanitation-Hygiene Education and Clean Water through a partnership with UZima Filters. The education piece shares with the participants why they are suffering from WBD, where it comes from, and how to prevent the diseases. This education combined with the clean water are changing lives immediately and have reported approximately an 90-95% reduction of incidences of WBD within 6 months of receiving SWOK’s education and water filter.
According to our census of those that have received the Water Filter, approximately 20-25 people are receiving clean water on a daily basis. Using technology taken from kidney dialysis, the Water Filters use Hollow Fiber Membranes. The filter’s lifespan is approximately 5 years with proper maintenance. These filters do not require any changeable cartridges, only back flushing with clean water to maintain. The filters are comprised of tiny micro tubes that allow water to enter into their core through tiny micro pores. The filter’s pores are so small (0.1 micron absolute) that effectively no bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E.Coli, Cholera and Typhoid can get through. SWOK in able to provide a hygiene presentation, along with the water filter and two water buckets for $30 per unit. For more information about the filter go to www.UZimaFilters.org
In Kenya, SWOK is partnering with Churches ,Area Chiefs, and governments, as well as local community leaders to identify communities to provide the hygiene education and distribute filters. We are seeking US based partners to provide financial means for sustainable life changing Sanitation-Hygiene Education and Clean Water filters to those in need in Kenya.
For $30 you can give a UZima Filter to a family that will provide clean water for approximately 10 years.
